The non-work calendar
Time was not meant to be mapped.
Calendar software is designed for the workplace. It represents time as something to be filled.
Using it for you own life results in a massive blank where you work, and all the interesting stuff pushed to the bottom (evening) or the right margin (weekend).
Events don't have a clear beginning or end. Sometimes they're just "lunch" or "on the evening" and the times are details that come afterwards, sometimes as a vague range.
They don't always have titles. And they certainly shouldn't be called "My Name/Some other name"
"Invite" is not the right verb. You don't start by sending a calendar invite, you just sync your calendar entry with somebody else after you've agreed.
What I want is a calendar that helps me understand my time to make it easier to organize things with my friends. And a better workflow than going back and forth with proposed dates over chat.
I want a month view, like the calendar on the wall, so I can see when I have a free evening in a week that's not already packed.
I want a week view, with a list of things, so I can plan the days ahead.
So I'm going to try and write calendar software that works for me. Non-work calendar software.
